ABOUT THE WORK:

Artworks:

  • Faceless Man: “End of February… Morning. The sun slowly awakens. Spring is approaching, and it will be warm soon. Before the alarm clock rings, there are still a few hours. Suddenly, everything was shaken by a strong impact. What was that? Phone calls from friends from all corners… In an instant, the whole of Ukraine erupted. Fear! Who unleashed the pendulum of this fear? A faceless person – War!!! And with each subsequent explosion, with each air raid siren, with the sound of a warplane, war becomes increasingly present in my thoughts and my life. Never! Listen, never allow it to enter your room, your house, your city, and your country. It destroys the future. It has destroyed the present. Now it is already warm. Summer is here. But for me, it is still the end of February. Morning. And the most I desire is peace.”

2) Metro of Life: “During the war, nearly 15,000 people hid from shelling in the Kharkiv metro. The metro station is close to my block. Children did homework, musicians played songs, and even newborns were born there. Life was happening there. So, we will continue to live.”

Oryna is one of the Ukrainian artists now based in Slovenia who created artworks within the frame of a group exhibition of Ukrainian artists living in Slovenia organised by APIS Institute.

3)  Peace. When the color palette of your life changes.

“Peace – how many colors are in this word, which I lost during winter. Now they are returning, and it seems like my life is awakening again. Peace in my life and within my home. These are my emotions and feelings. Sometimes they are clumsy and asymmetrical, yet they are alive.

I am joyful! I am learning! I dance and sing! I love my mother and father! I live! Sometimes I even miss because my loved ones are in different parts of the world, but I am glad they are safe. Thank you, new home. I am surrounded by happy people: my friends, boys, and girls.

Thank you, peace! I share my joy with the world, and in return, the world shares its beauty with me.”
